Designer and illustrator Javier Palma creates bold, graphic works of collage in which figures are obscured and abstracted by shifting blocks of solid color. The collages combine geometric and organic shapes, adopting the philosophy of portrait photography to tell the stories of people, their culture, and the world around them.
Through historical and contemporary photography exploration with analog and digital collages, I create a recontextualization of time, fusing fragments from different moments to discover and reveal the characteristics of society.
Printing and collecting photographs from magazines and museum archives are part of my process, giving rise to compositions that propose new interpretations. A range of events shape us as individuals and as a collective, inviting us to contemplate the interaction between past and present to
intertwine memories of history.
As a photographer, I document Honduras in several unexpected scenarios. I frame situations I encounter on the street, the everyday life of people; you never know what you're going to find. Little by little, a record is formed of things I have witnessed where I can see them repeatedly and make them part of my memory.
