Guillaume Bougie Riopel's collages offer poetic narratives crafted from photographs and found scraps, showcasing a unique interplay between architectural forms and organic elements. By breathing new life into discarded materials, Bougie Riopel imbues each collage with a unique sense of history and narrative.
Collage is a way to reconnect with my childhood memories. I grew up in a modest environment and I like the idea of an accessible artistic medium. A pair of scissors, a few magazines and that's it! It's a break to recharge my batteries and avoid being in front of a screen. There is a meditative side to collage that I greatly appreciate. I sometimes plan to cut out an image from a book from the 60's and I find myself reading the entire page.
Guillaume Bougie Riopel
Nostalgic for eras he never knew, Guillaume Bougie Riopel accumulates magazines, brochures and family archives in order to deconstruct them and bring them into a new narrative. Interested in architecture, design, fashion and objects, the artist uses collage to gather these interests and create aesthetic universes that resemble him. With this medium, the artist wishes to pay tribute to the beauty of everyday life. His favorite creations are often the result of an accident. Simply turning a cut-out element is enough to explore a new story.
