Les Jones navigates uncommon materials and diverse creative endeavors. His mixed media collages are distinguished by a fusion of materials such as aged packing tape, cardboard, and disassembled typography. This unique approach sets him apart from his contemporaries, as he masterfully incorporates elements from his immediate environment, transforming everyday materials. This methodology elevates his collages to extraordinary heights, reflecting a true connection between the artist and his surroundings.

AA, 2023
Paper collage on board, 7 x 10 in.

Collage, for me, is visual up-cycling. It’s about finding beauty and order in the lost and discarded. I work with found and salvaged materials to create graphic art that, hopefully, gives new meaning and relevance to those materials. The thing I love the most about collage is that each piece is a journey where the destination is unknown until it is finally arrived at. My role is to follow the path and make decisions at each turning or crossroads. Collage is about escape - it’s a chance to step away from a computer screen and immerse myself in an activity free of deadlines, pressure and stress. It’s a creative oasis.
