Emily Rowley masterfully channels the dynamic essence of 1950s and 1960s American culture, breathing new life into once-forgotten relics through her artistic prowess. Her creations seamlessly incorporate iconic imagery from that period, including bikini-clad women, timeless Daffy Duck comic strips, and deconstructed typography from vintage advertisements. Rowley crafts mesmerizing visual landscapes that irresistibly beckon the viewer to delve into and examine each intricate segment of her artwork.
The visceral and immersive way of working with collage throws up surprising and unique compositions, each piece a totally different experience. Working in analogue allows me to feel truly involved in the process that comes with spontaneity and imperfections, which are my favorite part of the medium, and is what makes my work true. Collage lets me showcase my love for discarded and forgotten ephemera and lets me give it a new form of life. I'm drawn to colour, text and type, fragments of pictures that catch my eye aesthetically.
