Samuel Graveline meticulously collects found film archives, primarily sourced from amateur photographers. By employing a unique layering technique, Graveline superimposes out-of-focus snapshots upon landscapes, which are in turn situated atop vintage paper, thereby crafting a calculated visual system. Central to Graveline's artistic philosophy is the interplay between obscurity and revelation. It is this orchestrated dance of appearances that imbues his work with a profound and unique aesthetic.
Collage is a way of creating new meanings for already existing content. It's not about novelty rather than taking the time to reunite distinct sources around a specific idea. It may be colour tones, representations, composition, but in the end it's about making a whole that spans through time and finds its meaning through association.
Samuel Graveline
Characterized by the sense of experimentation with both the materiality and the evocative potential of the photographic condition, my practice takes form through various mediums. I'm especially interested in concepts such as the disappearance and unveiling of the image, as much as its nature. My explorations lead me to reuse amateur images, in order to create new links between distinct representations, but also to provide new ways of being for these existing photographs.

Samuel Graveline was born in 1996 in Montreal, Canada where he is still currently based.
