The ghostly collages of Jens Wortman are mysterious and magical. Figures oscillate in a cubist formula where perspectives are shifted to create a deliberately disorienting effect. The bold use of retro-hued palette’s set against the puzzle-like compositional style creates a lasting impression on the discerning viewer.
Creating a collage always involves three essential phases: Deconstruction, Transformation & then finally Rebirth - a process that has always fascinated me. I created my first paper collages at the age of 14 or 15. I first came into contact with it in art class at our school. Making collages was a way for me to relax and clear my mind. This hasn’t changed for me for almost 30 years.

My creative work focuses on paper art, mainly paper collages. To rethink the representation of the human body fascinates me. Many of my collages focus on how the face and body are constructed. For me, the human face is something like the basis of my collage and the eye-catcher of each work. In most cases, these faces consist of many body parts I pasted together. My earlier work frequently focused on black & white vintage material and often conveyed something dark and melancholic. My recent work is more colorful but also much more chaotic and unpacks the common beauty ideal.
