Brenda Biondo captivates audiences with her intricately constructed, abstract sky images that explore light, color, space, and process. Employing the technique of rephotography, Biondo composes by dissecting and reassembling her own skyscapes. As a prolific artist, she propels the realms of photography and collage into uncharted territories, establishing a bold path for the future of the medium.
Collage is the ultimate appropriation, allowing us to give new meaning to existing images. Collage allows me to create new contexts for my traditional photographs while also giving me the ability to construct work much like a painter would: by deliberately placing color and shape exactly where I feel they need to go.
Brenda Biondo
I'm a photographic artist who uses traditional camera techniques to explore the perception of high-altitude light and color and their role in the construction of landscapes. Inspired by the Light and Space movement's emphasis on light as a medium and a subject, I place the sky in unconventional contexts to challenge viewers' perception of color and three-dimensional space. My photographs’ formal aesthetic qualities are strongly influenced by the broad history of modern painting, especially that of minimalism, color field and hard-edge abstraction.
