Big Nectar, 2022
Mixed media collage, 18 x 24 in.

Collage is like a mirror of today’s world. Cultures are colliding. New ideas are percolating. And novel forms of media are emerging. Lines are blurred, boundaries are broken, and images are torn apart–ultimately giving birth to something new. It’s re-contextualization for the masses. It’s free association for the artists. It’s the ultimate form of creative alchemy.

Originally from Los Angeles, Chris Burnett is a multi-disciplinary creative who works in a multitude of mediums. He started painting as a child, but fell in love with graphic design after taking a beginner’s course in high school. He went on to study graphic design at California Institute of the Arts and graduated with a Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts. After working dayjobs for numerous companies, he now works as a freelance creative director for a number of clients in the music industry–but has also maintained an independent arts practice in his spare time. When he’s away from his computer, he writes and produces music, shoots film photography, and creates large complex mixed-media art pieces as well as smaller collages. Chris discovered collage while attending CalArts and it has been his preferred medium of artistic expression ever since. It is a method that allows him to work with his hands only, and escape the ever demanding needs of the digital landscape.
