Artist and designer Maria Tokar has developed a unique grainy aesthetic by digitally manipulating images and text. She diligently documents her methodical process online, allowing her followers to learn and replicate her style, further exploring the potential of digital collage as not only a medium but also as a tool for learning.
To me, collage is a medium that allows you to express your ideas in the most surreal way and to find new meanings by combining the incompatible. At the same time, it’s sort of a shortcut because you don’t have to be an expert in every artistic niche and produce the initial materials yourself. This lets you concentrate primarily on a concept you want to convey.

In my work, I explore themes of mental health, self-reflection, and people's inner feelings. I use many vintage photographs that give a sense of escapism from today's reality and reveal human feelings regardless of the time they live in. Inner fears, anxiety, and attempts to find your true self are some of the main issues I raise in my art. Although I strive to make my collages look analog, I mostly prefer working digitally because Adobe Photoshop has endless opportunities for experimenting.
