Brado engages in the medium of appropriation as a means of creating compositions that are fundamentally non-referential. Their artistic approach is marked by a playfully experimental inclination towards abstraction, utilizing color and texture to establish mood and tone rather than relying on linguistic or overly figurative elements.
As someone who is somewhat obsessed with history and memories, I sort of see my own worldview as a way of using the past to inform the future; which sounds simple and obvious, but I think that simplicity makes the past so easily over looked. For the future, you kind of have to have faith. You have to believe in ambiguities and take chances, and the only way to make it easier is by letting the past guide you without letting it hinder you. For me, this is what collage is all about — an endless conversation with all of the nuances that shape our reality and help define where we are now.
Brado
Brado is a collage artist, zine maker and mail artist based in Northeast Ohio. Brado’s venture into creative work began in the digital realm, experimenting with found images to create digital compositions. This process would then inform their exploration of analog collage, using vintage magazines and ephemera to create the old-fashioned way.
Since being involved with collage, Brado has experimented with other mediums including illustration and acrylic painting, using these tools to create mixed media collages. Brado’s artistic venture has led them towards some interesting paths including the wonderful world of mail art as well as regularly assisting the Twin Cities Collage Collective based in Minneapolis, MN.
