The works of Alex Belser embody the essence of Americana. Fragmented depictions of cowboys and baseball players are juxtaposed against solid color blocks, vintage photographs, and distorted typography. The result is a distinctive romanticization of a bygone era of American Culture.
To me, collage is an exercise in exploration. There are seemingly infinite ways to place, arrange, or reinterpret—each of them offering a new perspective. The exploration of these arrangements feeds my curiosity, provokes thought, and, quite simply, offers a never-ending avenue for fun.

I follow the interactions that capture my interest. Often times I find myself more concerned with composition than with any one individual element. I keep myself open to surprises, as that to me is part of the magic of collage—placing one unrelated element next to another and seeing it in a different way. I explore collage in both the analog and the digital realm, and often times in some mixture of the two. I usually start working with analog paper/magazine scraps and then move it into the digital realm, if desired, by scanning individual elements. Sometimes I enjoy the restrictions of analog creation, and sometimes I enjoy the additional possibilities afforded by digital tools like photoshop.
