E for Escape, 2021
Magazine cutouts on paper, 14 x 11 in.

Jolo Salvador is an artist who samples pop culture to create collages both visually and sonically. His lush, soulful sound translates smoothly to his interlocking cut-paper collages. A conductor of rich textures and patterns, Salvador’s creative output reminds one of the influences collage has had on hip-hop.

Dream State 2, 2020
Magazine cutouts on paper, 8.5 x 11 in.

Collage to me is having your own take on things, and being able to rework ideas with what already exists. It could also be exercise for pushing and making way for ideas given certain limitations - possibly access to the subconscious. It could be a way to practice seeing things that we don’t normally see.

Melatonin Dream, 2022
Magazine cutouts on paper, 14 x 11 in.

Surreal and abstract collage pieces from print cutouts with themes of self, dreams, and the mental. Obscure forms created by playing around with segmented parts of images being mindful of color and flow. Works inspired by the sampling practice in Hip-hop production and other electronic music as well as the wild style nature of graffiti.
