By skillfully navigating these ideas, Santamarina's practice invites us to re-examine the ways in which we view and understand our collective past.
For me, collage is a form of artistic expression in which chance and the gaze coexist. Collage is not just cutting and pasting (it's the first thing I explain in my workshops), for me it's very important that it have conceptual coherence or visual balance.

Carmen Santamarina is a graphic designer and collage artist. Since the mid-eighties when she began to develop her professional facet as a graphic designer (Santamarina Diseñadores), her work tools have also become faithful tools that have accompanied her throughout all these years in a quiet creative process: from the image, penetrate the image and transform it. Thus, the impulse of a task that becomes visual poetry. In 2016, together with the poet Hermes González, she obtained the second runner-up of the IV “Francisco Pino” Prize for experimental poetry and in 2020 she was awarded, also together with Hermes González, with the VI “Francisco Pino” Prize for experimental poetry for her work “the lives of others “
