Malacarta
In Bilico, 2023
Paper, tape, and glue, 15 x 15 cm

In Malacarta's work, the interplay of disjointed images captures the tension between individuality and the forces of change. A vortex stands in for a head, a patchwork of textures forms a face, a car is set against a backdrop of flames, each a metaphor in the search for unity in a fragmented world. Her collages invite us to ponder the constant reassembling of our identities in response to the relentless pace of modern life.

Stati di Agitazione, 2023
Paper, tape, and glue, 21 x 30 cm

I don't think I have a specific leitmotif, except for my emotions. Most of the time, when I sit down and start creating, I don't even have a clear idea of where or how it will end up. I just feel an extreme urge to express what I'm feeling at that moment. My hands translate thoughts into configurations of paper, like an interpreter. Then, it often happens that, over time, I revisit my works and understand myself, a little more each time.

L’arte della fuga, 2023
Paper, tissue paper and glue, 21 x 30 cm

I find the process leading up to collage fascinating and enjoyable. I spend a lot of time especially on the hunt for old magazines, photos, papers, and materials. Lately, I've also been working a lot with journals, using them as a means of practice, which is why I'm learning to bind them myself.

La Forma del Vuoto, 2022
Paper and glue, 15 x15 cm
Grande è la Confusione Sotto il cielo,15 x 15 cm,
Paper and glue, 2022

For me, collage is, above all, a source of extreme and spontaneous fun and, most importantly, a way to express my emotions outwardly. Over the years, a more technical study has certainly come into play, but I always try to keep in mind that without fun and emotions, there is no collage. This is the most important thing.

Sepa - Rati, 2023
Paper, pencil, and glue, 21 x 29 cm

What fascinates me the most about collage is its accessibility and "horizontality": all you need are some pieces of paper and a bit of glue. After that, all that's left to do is have fun and pour all your emotions onto the paper.

Crepe, 2023
Paper, glue, and tape, 15 x15 cm

Nerhol is an artist unit created by Yoshihisa Tanaka and Ryuta Iida in 2007. The name comes from a mash-up of two words, “neru” to plan ideas and “holu” to sculpt and carve. Tanaka studied at the Department of Scenography, Display and Fashion Design, Musashino Art University; and Iida at the Program in Sculpture, Department of Fine Arts, Nihon University College of Art. Tanaka makes new symbols and types by reconstructing them; Iida works with paper and types as a medium, making sculptures using books.

Caleb Kwarteng Prah brings photography and painting together in works inspired by everyday Ghanaian life. For Prah, the past provides a rich field for rethinking image-making in the present, particularly by paying attention to the conditions and forces which have shaped the understanding of Black African life and its representations.

Julia Bland’s large scale works incorporate painting and weaving, developing the structures and patterns that bind disparate elements into a whole. While the compositions incorporate structures that imply pure or timeless forms, color and materiality evoke an embodied visual experience.  Through weaving, cutting, sewing, dying, and painting, the surface becomes a visible record of her evolving, multi-faceted process.
