Aaron

Krach

Aaron Krach is an artist and teacher who works with pictures, words, people, rocks, vodka, printmaking, porn, plants, and ceramics to create new images, and hopefully, new ways of seeing. Aaron has made paintings with a frog, collected stones with soldiers in Afghanistan, and made sculptures with shoppers at a flea market in Tblisi, Georgia.

In this series of analogue collages, Aaron used only three sources: an oversized science book with gorgeous nature photography, a vintage catalog from the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, and an early-80s homoerotic photography. The compositions remix “befores,” such as before AIDS, before global warming, before the internet.

Aaron remixes and re-frames images and objects hoping to reveal what is overlooked, highlight what is missed, and ask questions such as: Where are we going? What is freedom? Who am I?

“Books have become my primary outlet,” says Aaron. “The system of books, of one page after another, automatically helps make sense of my work. Books can be held close, sold inexpensively, and distributed widely.” His artist books are in the many library collections including The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and The Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona.

In 2023, he found @ND AARON KRACH to support experimental collaborative publications. @ND’s first project, WATCHWORD, is collection of short stories by Jason Haaf and collages by Aaron, unbound and able to be remixed by the reader. Next up is a photocollage book with images by Robert Flynt printed directly onto analogue collages.

Aaron Krach was born in 1972 in Michigan, USA; grew up in Los Angeles; and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
